Spring 2022 Newsletter

Dear Gather Up friends,

First things first, we have just opened our call out for our next round of Response Pots, offering micro-bursaries to Bristol based artists working within contemporary dance. The deadline for round 2 is Monday 9th May at 5pm. The details of the application process and eligibility criteria can be found here.

Speaking of Pots, please note that we continue to be able to cover the costs associated with attending our activities and events through our Care Pot. Please don’t hold back if such costs (travel/child or other care etc) pose a hindrance to you in any way. This is a confidential and straightforward process. Just drop us an email and we will respond within a few days.

As we wrap up a research period that we’ve been undertaking into artist-led initiatives (through a BCC Originator’s Fund), Laila of team Gather Up has just written a blog where she reflects on what we’ve been up to. She has also compiled a non-exhaustive list of some of the artist-led initiatives that we have spoken to, come across, or simply been inspired by. We’d like to thank all of the artists and colleagues who have engaged with us along this path of inquiry over the last year.

We have also decided to open up access to our Library of People to all South West based artists working in dance (rather than just Bristol). Jo Bannon and Katherine Hall have recently joined the Library; take a peek if you’d like to know more about what kind of (free!) support the nine ‘librarians’ can offer.

We’re also happy to announce that our Spring Season of Monday Morning Classes will be taught by Linzy Na Nakorn, Lisa May Thomas and Anna Kaszuba. These classes are really well attended (as in sold out each week!), so it’s always worth booking at least a week in advance if you’d like a guaranteed spot. We are very happy to continue to be able to offer a dancing start to the week.

And before we sign off for July and August, we are planning to host one extra workshop in June. We will announce this very soon - watch this space.

In the meantime, enjoy the light and the budding.

If you’d like to be kept in the Gather Up loop, follow us: @gather_up_dance on IG and @GATHERUP on Fb.

And a big thank you to our project partners Bristol Old Vic, Arnolfini, Tobacco Factory Theatres and funders Arts Council England and Bristol City Council, with additional support from Bristol Dance Futures.

Laura, Laila and Katherine (team Gather Up).
